Summer twenty-sixteen has come and gone but the memories are still very much vivid and unforgettable. China was nothing what I expected it to be. Before my trip to China, I always imagined this country being very conservative, cultural mostly but architecturally too. I see China, I can see its cultural values but I don’t see that same values in its modern architecture. Modern architecture in China is very different to their traditional architecture and that says a lot about the country. I believe that China has great intend to continue to build great cities like it already has but they can be even better. This country has gone a little too far with its “weird” architecture, as the president from China says it is. I understand why he thinks that way of his country’s modern architecture. The country does not have well or if any restrictions on architecture design, they need to be regulated to have some sort of common ground to where China will be going into.

Shanghai is a big city, there is so much to do and see here, it was hard to choose where to go and where to not go. There were do many things I wanted to see and experiences but we only had two days left. 102°F | Fair
We have finally arrived to our last destination of Cal Poly Pomona's College of Environmental Design trip. We are here in Shanghai at last, it is coming to an end and I don't want leave. 104°F | Fair
Visited Chinese classical gardens. First we went to the Humble Administrative Garden (Zhuo Zheng Yuan). This was a huge beautiful garden except that it wasn't humble at all. The garden was crowded of tourists. You could not get somewhere without bumping a few people along the way. 104°F | Fair
Toured Tongli Water Town. We had lunch there and visited different gardens here. This place was HUGE. At the entrance we all got maps but even with them I still got lost. 97°F | Clear
All of the girls shared a room and so we all had alarms around 4 in the morning to wake up on time. We all left for our little hike to watch the sunrise around 4:30 am. 100°F | Clear
Today was the day we hiked the Yellow Mountain aka Huangshan Mountain. I am feeling very nervous about hiking up this huge mountain. I know it will be mentally and physically challenging. 80°F | Fair
Didn’t sleep all night because we got back late. I still had to pack and that’s all I did when I got back to my dorm. It was too risky if I would’ve fallen asleep because who knew if I would wake up on time for our train. We left campus early in the morning. Took the bus to the train station. Then took a 6.5-hour bullet train ride to Tunxi. 88°F | Mostly Cloudy
It final presentation day. My team didn’t go home all night. The building gets locked up at nights and opens at 6am. At 7am, we all went back to our rooms to freshen up. My team was the first one there so we set up to present first. The professors were the ones who came in a little late so we waited on them but Irma and Courtney looked extremely happy when they saw us all set up and ready to go. 89°F | Partly Cloudy
Woke up at 6 am. Packed water, orange juice and a few snacks. Met everyone else at our usual meeting spot at 6:30 am. The bus ride took about 2.5 hours to get to Simatai where we were going to hike up the Great Wall of China. |
