Woke up at 6 am. Packed water, orange juice and a few snacks. Met everyone else at our usual meeting spot at 6:30 am. The bus ride took about 2.5 hours to get to Simatai where we were going to hike up the Great Wall of China.

I took on the nap on the way, it was very uncomfortable. We arrived to Simatai around 9 am. Instead of hiking the whole way up I paid 90 RMB for a cable car all the way up. Everyone else hiked up except for Maya, Bea, Jesus, Mariana, Escarlet and I. I think it was totally worth it to pay because the view going up was amazing. Once we got off the cable car we had to climb a couple of very steep stairs to get to the top of the wall. There were so many steps, they were all steep and uneven and when we finally saw the wall we got really really happy. When we finally got to the top Bea was started playing The Eye of the Tiger, we all felt accomplished. We sat down to sketch and write in our journals and after half an hour we saw Chuc. Chuc was the first one to make it to the top then everyone else started to show up shortly after him.
It was very touristy up here, obviously. We saw many non-Asians to visit the Great Wall. The view was breathtaking. This was by far my favorite hike. Escarlet and I hiked our way down the wall and then Courtney caught us to up and joined us. Since Escarlet and I didn’t hike up here like everyone else we were surprised on how far we have come along and how the stair steps got very small in certain areas. I slipped down one of the steps but was able to catch myself to not fall all the way down. After walking down so many steps the rest of the trail down was very green. After getting to the bottom so others caught up to us just in time to take the tram back to where we started. Since we had some time to kill some of us went to Starbucks to get some coffee and a small snack. Ordered a medium caramel macchiato and shared a sandwich with Escarlet. Somehow everyone ended up here as well and unknowingly this ended up being our meeting spot to regroup with the rest.
We took a three-hour bus back to campus. Got to campus and went out for Hot Pot for dinner. Took the bus there with a few other friends. We got there and had the best hot pot ever.
