Today was the day we hiked the Yellow Mountain aka Huangshan Mountain. I am feeling very nervous about hiking up this huge mountain. I know it will be mentally and physically challenging.

We took a 1.5-hour bus ride to get to another bus station that took us to cable cars. We took the cable cars up the mountain but they didn’t go all the way to the top. We hiked up the mountain for a few hours and a part of me died going up. I was not prepared for this hike. I did not train for this. I haven’t sweated this much since cross country days in high school that was about 4 years ago.
The stairs here. I didn’t expect this at all. There were SOOOO many stairs! I thought this hike would be more steep dirt trails rather than these stairs. Also, the stairs were all very well made or at least for a national park, I would expect them to be less maintained, more old, rustic and uneven.
It was hot but since there were a lot of trees we had a nice breeze coming in every now and then which helped a lot.
On our way up there we took a lunch break. We stopped at some basketball courts in front of an overpriced restaurant. Here we met a few kids that ended up playing basketball with some of us.
I was still dying coming up but finally made it! I could feel sweat going in my eye and it burned but I think the pain in my legs hurt more that I ignored my eyes.
I still couldn’t believe that I had made it up to the top. I felt like I should put this on my resume or something.
It was dinner time and we were all hungry so we had an expensive cheap dinner up here. We finished dinner and checked into our very sketchy moldy rooms.
I took a shower and went outside where I found friends. Necils, WaiTo, Jocelyn and I went for a tiny walk not far from our hotel to find ourselves looking up at the stars. We were there for maybe half an hour and saw a few shooting stars. This was defiantly one of the most peaceful moments that I have ever experienced. I was looking up at all of these stars and I felt so tiny. It was getting late so we headed back to our hotel so we can get some sleep before waking up really early the next morning to watch the sunrise.
